20 Favourite Christina Aguilera Songs

Before I begin: I think people don't know that I am a CA supporter too.

If I did a Mariah Carey one, I have to do a Christina Aguilera one, and yes, I will also do a Rihanna one to complete the "series", hahahahahahhaha.

The funny thing is, I have 190+ Mariah songs and boiled it down to 25 favourite songs. I have only 80+ Christina songs, which means that in proportion, I should have around 10 favourite Christina songs. However, I can't go lower than 20.

So, this is the 20 Favourite Christina Aguilera Songs! In alphabetical order:

"Ain't no other man can stand up next to you."

This song is about celebrating the good men in this world. Hahahahahhah! Good! Cause everytime I see all those Chinese television dramas that go "All men are the same", I'm like "ya, women also." But when we celebrate each other, then that's nice ;D I remember this song was covered by Tabitha Nauser in Singapore Idol. Hated it.

This song was #6 in the US and won the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys. Yeah!

"I am beautiful in every single way. Words can't bring me down."

You know, actually all these quotes are merely the sentence in the song where the title appears in. Some of them aren't actually my favourite lines from the song. Such as this one, one of the biggest lines in this song is,

"No matter what we do, no matter what we say, we're the song that's outta tune, full of beautiful mistakes."

This song is obviously about true beauty and bringing each other down, similar to "Can't Take That Away (Mariah's Theme" by Mariah Carey. This song is by far one of the most difficult songs to sing. Or at least I think. Cause the bridge ends with an unreachable high note.

This song went to #2 in the US (damn it right? Should have been No. 1 instead right?) and #1 in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania and the UK. Also, this song won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammys. Yea, the same award Ain't No Other Man won. Which means Christina won this award TWICE la!

"Take a deep breath and say it out loud. Never can, never will, can't hold us down."

Christina's not a feminist, but she like, fighting for rights for women. And yea, that should be done la, there should be equality, but then still, quite strange to listen to a song like this where she's saying the world can't hold women down, and it's not really my business. Still like it because of it's hip hop influence and the very interesting bridge where she goes, "you must talk so big to make up for smaller things". Hahahaha!

This song was nominated for the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance award, which the above two songs won. In the mean time, it was #12 in the US and #2 in New Zealand.

"Working at the car wash! Woah woah yeah yeah yeah!"

Okay, forgot to include in the above image that it features Missy Elliott. Anyway, this song is just a hyped-up tune about working at the car wash. The first line of the song is, "you might not ever get rich", so it's kinda like a song about working. Like you know, Dick Lee's Fried Rice Paradise? The first time I heard this song in the film Shark Tale I liked it. Nice music.

#2 in New Zealand, Australia and Belgium. Not a very good chart performance in the US, cause Christina's not a label. Doesn't mean you put her on something, it will be successful. Some artists are like that.

"Come over here, baby. All I want is you. You know you make me go crazy."

It's a very teen-pop song about a girl and a guy. And oh ya, if I'm not wrong, this song was used in a Kids Central commercial. Whenever I hear this song I am reminded of Kids Central, don't know why. Maybe cause this song was used to promote some event like Escape Theme Park when it used to be new, by saying, "come on over" to Escape Theme Park? I might be misremembering, because, "Get This Party Started" by P!nk was also used in Kids Central before. So I might be mistakening the songs for each other.

#1 in the US! This song, unfortunately, is Christina's last solo #1 so far. After that, she never got another #1 alone. In fact, after this song, she only had one more #1 in the US, and that's it. Luckily she's still alive, can break this draught.

"It's about time that I came to start the party! Sweat dripping over my body!
Dancing getting just a little naughty! Wanna get dirrty?! It's about time for my arrival! Oh, what?"

Definitely my favourite Christina Aguilera song, this song was my most-listened song of 2009 even though it was released seven years before that. This song's just about breaking the rules for the first time and enjoying it with no worries. Sometimes we get too uptight, we need to unleash ourselves.

This song was #48 on US. Ya, dunno why. Not even Top 40. HOWEVER, this song was also #1 in the UK and Ireland, and Top 10 in several other countries. That's cool =D This song was also nominated for a Grammy.

"Makes me learn a little bit faster. You made my skin a little bit tighter.
Makes me that much smarter. Thanks for making me a fighter."

We need to thank the people that tried to make trouble for us, for training us to fight for ourselves and become stronger. That's what this song is about. It's one of my favourite rock-influenced tracks ever.

#3 in UK and Canada. Top 20 hit in the US.

"I'm a genie in a bottle, baby. Got me rub the right way, honey."

Obviously the first song I ever heard that was Christina Aguilera, because this is her first single in her career (excluding Reflection, which was Disney-based). Ahhh, memories when I listen to this song cause I was probably in Kindergarten or Primary 1 back then. Read the quote to find out the song. And oh ya, I was actually quite irritated whenever I type "Genie" into Youtube and SNSD's song will appear at the top of the search results, but not anymore, cause I now enjoy that song too. Hahahhaha.

#1 in the US for 5 weeks! That's more than one month ah! Also, #1 in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Europe (overall), Norwegia and the UK. =D =D

"Sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do. And I've hurt myself by hurting you."

That above quote is the entire chorus. You know, everytime I get like bad academic results I listen to this song, cause there's somewhat a link, and yet, no link, cause I don't blame anyone for my terrible results, but it's true that I will upset my parents if I get bad results. So, it's a 50:50.

#1 song in Switzerland and the Eurochart. Top 20 in the US.

"For the will to carry on. For everything you do, for everything that's true, I turn to you."

On Tuesday of the March holidays, I accompanied my sister to buy shoes at Jurong Point, and when I entered Gramophone, I could hear a Christina song playing out loud over the speakers. And then I realised, I Turn To You ! And I was thinking it wasn't the radio, cause this song is a 1999-2000 hit. And it turns out they were playing tracks from a just-released Love Songs compilation. Cool, this song, a cover of the Boyz II Men original, is recognized.

#3 in the US, which makes it Christina's third consecutive Top 3 hit in her singles discography.

"It's impossible for me to love you if you don't let me know what you're feeling."

This song was co-written by Alicia Keys, whose voice can be heard in the beginning of the track. It's a very nice non-single track. So far, every song above has been a single. This is the first non-single which I enjoy A LOT. Exquisite piano, exquisite vocals. You can imagine this playing in one cold, stormy night, in a warm hotel. Wah, romantic. Hahahahhaha.

Non-single, so, no chart performance. Dunno what Christina was thinking. Ask Alicia Keys to do a collaboration, and yet don't want to turn the wonderful track into a single.

"Getting lost in el ritmo he whispers te quiero, te quiero.
I begin to give in with no hesitation, can't help my infatuation."

Inspired by her past relationship with her Puerto Rican boyfriend, Jorge Santoz. This song is pretty nice, but if you want me to put all these songs on the list in order of most to least favourite, then this song will be a bottom 5. I like the starting line in the chorus, "I am full-blood boricua!"

Non-single. No chart performance.

"This is a man's man's man's world, but it wouldn't be nothing, nothing, without a woman or a girl."

In proper English, the quote would mean, "this world won't be nothing if don't have women." But because the song, originally by James Brown, an African-American, is in Ghetto, that's why the song actually means, "this world will be nothing without women." Think about it, why would Christina Aguilera cover the song if she were almost a feminist (like in Can't Hold Us Down?) In the mean time, this song is not a proper song, because it was just a live performance that I turned into an mp3. It is one of the best live performances in this world, and it was done in the Grammys.

The performance was voted 3rd best Grammy performance of all time.

"Some days I'm a super bitch... next day I'm a super girl,
out to save the world, and it keeps gettin' better."

Her latest single, yet it was released 2 years ago. Anyway, this song is about her being nasty sometimes, and her being angelic sometimes, and in the end, it just keeps progressing on and on and on. Something lidat ah. An electronic sound which Christina never used and will be using as her theme for her upcoming 2010 album, Bionic, which is bloody not out yet.

Debuted at #7 in the US! =D It was #2 in Turkey.

"Creole lady marmalade."

Heard this song in like 2001 or 2002 or something. At that time, I didn't know which girl was Christina, so I thought the first singer was, but it turned out that the last singer was Christina. Anyway, I love Christina's part the most, especially with her line, "made the savage beast inside roar until he cried." Dunno why, very expressive. And her belts here are phenomenal

#1 in the US, Australia, Germany, Ireland, New Zealans, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and UK!

"Lord, have mercy on my soul for I have walked the sinful road. So I'm gonna get down on my knees, beg forgiveness to help set me free. Lord have mercy on me."

This track is very gospel-like, and I like it a lot. It has a very strong message and a very huge musical impact. Very obviously it's about asking God for mercy and forgiveness. There are several biblical references, such as to Jesus and to Mary.

Non-single, no chart performance. From the album, Back to Basics, which I have grown to enjoy listening to.

"When will my reflection show who I am inside?"

It's just a really important song, that we need to be consistent both outside and inside. Sometimes the person we are outside does not reflect who we are inside, and that will slowly result in us having an identity crisis. This is Christina's first song professionally.

This song was the lead single from the Mulan soundtrack. It was later a track inside Christina's debut album.

"When I'm about to fall somehow you're always waiting, with your open arms to catch me.
You always save me from myself."

Technically, Shi Hwee recommended this song. At that time, I didn't know any song on Back to Basics except like their singles, and so, I had no idea what Save Me From Myself was. After listening to it a first time, I was like, "ok...", but during the End-Year Exams of 2009, there was this day I played this song over and over again until it accumulated dunno how many play counts. This song is a simple, guitar-based track and definitely one of my favourite guitar songs, cause I usually do not like guitar songs.

Not released as a single, if I am not wrong.

"You make me feel so emotional. I can't let go, I'm so emotional."

There are some people who make you feel really emotional right? This is the song for you then. A track from her 1999 debut album, I like this song cause it progresses very easily. Aiya, listen to know la.

Non-single.

"Everybody just come to life under the spotlight. All the boys wanna fall behind."

This is a LEAKED song from her upcoming film, Burlesque! I put it into my iPod and it has been one of my more consistently-listened-to songs this year, although as I write this, it's definitely not in my weekly Top 30. Anyway, err, what is this song about? Aiya, musically very Ain't No Other Man, but what it is about... err, not sure.

Not YET a single. +D

Okay, my Top 20 favourite songs for Christina Aguilera! You know, there's a different feel I get writing this post compared to when I wrote Mariah's, cause when I wrote Mariah's, I was listening to each song as I wrote them, but for Christina, I was listening to a Harry Potter podcast instead. Never mind, it's not like anyone really reads my text cause they mostly view the images and then that's it.
