Miseducation of the American Idiot

I went all the way to Somerset for HMV again. The previous time I went there was I think 2 weeks ago (and one day, to be more specific), because I didn't want to rot at home while waiting for the rest of my friends to finish what they were doing and together watch Alice in Wonderland.

Anyway, I brought a lot of money there even though I didn't plan on spending a lot. Just in case I saw something worth it. And after that, I left 313@Somerset and walked to Ngee Ann City and entered Kinokuniya. And then, I found a book which I saw previously only at VivoCity. And it was in so much better quality than the VivoCity one, so I immediately bought it.

Tada:

They are
The Billboard Book of Number 1 Hits: Updated And Expanded 5th Edition by Fred Bronson,
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill by Lauryn Hill and
Anerican Idiot by Green Day

This book was published in 2003 and has over 930 US #1 hits inside, which means #1 hits from the remainder of 2003 all the way till today are not inside. I already knew that because the cover says "Fifth Edition", and I think there is a Sixth Edition out now (which also means, it will take ten thousand years for it to reach Singapore, so I can make do with this available 5th edition for now).

But the point is, most of Mariah's #1 hits come from the 1990s, and every Christina #1 hit is from 1999 to 2001!

Each page features one US #1 hit with a table of the top-five songs at that time, background of the song and/or artist and a photo. The above photo is the page of Fantasy, Mariah's 8th #1 hit which spent 8 weeks at #1.

And this obviously is Christina with her first #1, Genie in a Bottle, which is also her debut single. The page before that is Wild Wild West by Will Smith.

You know, I don't know much about the hits from 1950s to 1980s, so I usually find myself around 1985 when the Michael Jackson, Madonna and Whitney Houston songs start appearing.

Technically I wasn't supposed to buy this album (released 2004, six bloody years ago), but because it had a 2 for $30 offer tag pasted on the plastic wrapping, I decided to buy this to accompany the album below.

I chose to buy this album because it was a soul album and won the Album of the Year for 1998. That's kinda like a big big deal. Like, if Fearless is the Album of the Year of 2009, then this album is the equivalent for 1998.

And it turns out in the end that American Idiot is nicer to listen to than The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. And usually after finishing listening to an album, I will just think, "okay, very nice/bad", and then that's it, but for American Idiot, I replayed the whole list again, and I usually don't do that la! I don't think I did so for my favourite album of all-time, The Emancipation of Mimi, the first time I bought it.

Which means I listened to American Idiot twice consecutively. Wah. It's worth it, and it definitely deserved the Grammy award for Best Rock Album. The bestestest song is "Holiday" and "She's A Rebel". The rest of the songs are very nice. Never thought I would give such positive comments to rock/alternative/punk music, since I'm very R&B-Pop.

I think it's a shame if you like a song, and yet you ilegally downloaded it. If you like a song, go out and buy the track after previewing it illegally. If don't have money, then don't listen to the song in the first place. Unless you don't really like that song but listen to it for the sake of sake, then never mind, but if you really like it then you should go buy it.

In the mean time, Christina Aguilera's website has been revamped with this new robotic freak for an image! CA news are gonna be revealed on Tuesday! Excited like crazy. Actually not really, cause I'm only expecting an album cover. The album covers for Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel and Rated R were a disappointment to me, so I'm guessing this will be the same.
